I had always thought the first film I saw Harry Dean Stanton in was “Alien”. But when I watched a Dustin Hoffman film called “Straight Time” on TCM a few months ago, there he was. Giving his usual great performance. I had saw the film when it was first released in the theater, a year prior to “Alien”. So I looked him up on IMDB. Checking out all of his filmography. It seems he was in a bunch of TV shows I watched as a kid. So I had seen him long before both those films. Stanton was such a great character actor. You’ve probably seen him a lot more than you realize, in so many classic films and TV shows. The films I listed as James’ favorites are my favorites too. Here’s a small list of some of the films that were better by just having him in them. “Wild At Heart”, “The Last Temptation Of Christ”, “One From the Heart”, “Big Love”, “Pretty in Pink”, “Escape from New York”, and “Cool Hand Luke”. Just so you know, the reason the strip is called “Right” is because that was his classic answer to everything he was asked in the film “Alien”. Rest in Peace, Mr. Stanton.
